what's the output of "select * from _${CLUSTER_NAME}.sl_status" on your 
master node?

i've never had it stop on me...  also, what OS are you on?  FreeBSD 4.x 
or 5.x?  My master is 4.10 and the slave is 5.3-STABLE and they run 
their own slon daemons.
