I've been doing some digging in the pgpool-II code because we want exactly what you are talking about and it seems that this is not yet supported by pgpool-II. When the master (lowest numbered backend) fails it automatically selects the next backend in the series and uses that as the master. I'm working on a patch (which won't be too general as pgpool as of yet only works on a per connection basis rather than a per set basis, but it is good enough for us as we only have one set with one master). I can send you a note when (if) we got a patch for it if you want. /Marcus -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFHfgEoZk3kto/xJ1MRAi7hAKDnv03NcEUWYmm+V+qgjGeHLxQuDwCeIAC8 v6luzN/PHHeZInoPIR//3bo= =X4// -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
